March 17, 2017
Father Darrin Connall, Vicar General of the Diocese of Spokane, announced on Thursday, March 16, 2017, that Bishop Thomas Daly has asked the Board of Directors of Cataldo Catholic School to return the school's system of governance to a parochial model. By July 1, 2017, the governance of the school will be provided by the three pastors of the associated parishes rather than the lay board of directors.
Father Connell explained to the present Board of Directors at a meeting held in the Chancery offices on that Thursday evening that Bishop Daly believes Catholic schools best fulfill their mission of forming and educating our children when they are truly parish-based.
He also stressed that a parent counsel would be established to provide input and advice to the new directors from the school community and he invited the present board members to be actively engaged in forming that council and offering other suggestions for developing in the months to come an effective model of governance and leadership of the school.
This parochial system of leadership is consistent with the long history of the school and with what all other Catholic elementary schools in the diocese are doing.
