Some 27 years ago, when Father Kevin was still a young priest, he spent a year in the diocesan mission of our diocese in the highlands of Guatemala. Much of that time was serving in the parish of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán, a community of predominantly Mayan indigenous people.
He has returned from time to time over the years, most recently this past August (2016).
While there, he spent time with the pastor, Spokane priest, Father David Baronti, as well as the people of the community itself. He presided at Masses and helped out as he could, Mostly, he just enjoyed visiting and being among these faith-filled and loving people, whom, he says, feel very much like "family" to him after all these years.
